Hannah Smith | Personal Rise Garden Product Manager

Current City: Evanston, IL

Hometown: Pittsfield, MA

Next up in our series is our Personal Rise Garden Product Manager, Hannah Smith. She is interning with Rise Gardens while completing her MBA at Kellogg School of Management. Over the past year, she has been managing every aspect of the development and launch of our new Personal Rise Garden!

Why did you choose to work with Rise Gardens?

Having an opportunity to work on a product that I believe in so strongly was something I couldn't turn down. The connection that we all feel to food when we play such a significant role in growing it not only makes this a fun hobby but also increases the number of leafy greens and vegetables we all eat.

How has Rise Gardens changed how you are eating?

I have never been so excited to eat a salad. Gone are the days of having to pick through the soggy lettuce leaves in plastic containers (or, what happened more often for me, avoiding buying greens all together).

What’s your favorite dish to cook

Spinach and beet (from my RG) salad topped with goat cheese, walnuts, and balsamic

Do you have any special secret talents?

As a kid, I was trained by an ex-Ring Ling Brothers aerialist in aerials and thought at one point I would join the circus. I have competed in the absurd "snow-shoe running" sport.

Tell us about your gardening experience.

I love house plants, they make winter so much more bearable but never ventured into the realm of vegetable gardening until I found Rise Gardens.

What book are you reading right now?

Getting (more of) what you want - I am part time at Rise because I am currently a full-time student at Kellogg so my reading time often goes towards class material.
